About

I walked the Camino de Santiago in January 2023

I’m Jeremy, you might know me personally. I create documentaries and films which you can see at ieremv.com. I live in Singapore, a small island city in Southeast Asia with no mountains.

My twin brother started me on long-distance hiking on the Maclehose Trail in Hong Kong which I followed up with the Poon Hill Trek in Nepal. They were experiences I loved.

And I wanted to walk more. Before this, I had also never formally recorded my trips.

The Plan

I planned to walk the Camino Frances (The French Way), a 780km route, starting on January 1 at Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port and ending on February 4 at Santiago de Compostela.

Here’s a post explaining my thoughts on why I decided to walk the Camino de Santiago, why in winter, and why I did it on my own.

For my eventual walk, I started on December 31 and ended up reaching Santiago on January 31, then further extending my trip to Fisterra and Muxía.

This blog served as an update to friends and family, a record for posterity, and the first practice for me in writing and recording these trails. I also hope it can be a reference for future pilgrims walking in winter.

All photos (except a few group selfies) are taken with an iPhone 12 Pro Max.

    Hi Jeremy
I found your website through the camino forum. I wonder how far you are now? I arrive in Astorga tomorrow evening and will start walking on Monday.
Buen Camino – Susan (LilleTyksak in camino forum)

Hi Jeremy, I am Cyndi, a Singaporean who lives in Vigo (70km south of Santiago) the last 18 yrs, today I met your Camino buddy from Catalonia (Ingrid) who was so happy after I told her that I am a Singaporean, haha.
I started talking with (between Triacastela to Sarria) her because she was the only one who i saw during these days that walking from Santiago to Catalonia.
I saw the statistic that there were 2 Singaporeans completed between January to March 2023, perhaps you are the 1st one in 2023, that 2022 totally have about 400++ of Singaporeans completed the walks. Buen Camino!!

Hi, did you have any problems in finding open albergues municipales or parroquiales? I’d like to do the Camino in January as well, but I’ve read conflicting opinions about the availability of these places. I would prefer to sleep in these facilities since they are much cheaper than private ones.

Hi Andrea, I can only comment on the Camino Frances. Most municipales were available, but do check the websites/apps I listed under resources (https://jeremycamino.blog/2023/02/14/resources/), especially Aprinca. Always call ahead the day before to doublecheck.
